Grand Northern Uke Festival

The Grand Northern Ukulele Festival 2015

I’ve been debating over whether to go to the Grand Northern Ukulele Festival in May. It’s not a debate over whether I want to go or not, it’s more a case of logistics.

There are a few factors influencing my decision at the moment, and the first one is who do I go with? My son Ben is pretty handy on a ukulele but I’m not sure his attention span would see him lasting a day – hell I have to break our lessons down into 5 minute slots sometimes! Another option is my dad who recently got a uke, but again I think he’d struggle with an all day event with his health. So it’s looking likely that I’ll grab a ticket and head there on my own for either the Saturday or the Sunday – not quite sure which day yet as I can’t seem to work out which performers are on which day. Whichever day I go with, I’m sure it will be excellent.

Does anyone have money in January?

The other factor is Christmas. Early January is never the time to be splashing the cash. I’m currently hiding from my credit card bills in the hope that they’ll just go away. I was hoping that I could hold off for a few weeks and grab a ticket towards the end of January but I’m not sure what availability will be like then. I’ve dropped the organisers an email and I guess I’ll see what they say.

I’ve read quite a few blogger reviews from previous incarnations and it seems like a really good day with loads of stuff going on. I’m also pretty scared that I’ll come back with another ukulele! What a shame I missed it when it was in Pontefract, it was right on my doorstep and I had no idea, I hadn’t gotten into ukulele at that point though.

Let me know if you’re thinking of going. It would be good to not be a complete loner on the day!

  1. Man – you should DEFINITELY go to this – GNUF has made its mark as one of the best uke festivals in the world – and well priced too. Over 30 acts and make sure you see the Got A Ukulele Main Stage Mashup where I will be bringing together some of the worlds top acts to play together out of their comfort zones .

    Will be tons of fun

    1. Hey Barry, thanks for the comment – yep the decision has definitely been made. I’m gonna grab a ticket at the end of January as I’m kidding myself that my finances will be in a better state then. It’s looking like I’ll only be able to make one day though – it’s better than nothing I guess!
