It’s fair to say I’m a pretty big fan of The Stone Roses, so here’s my first effort at one of their songs on the ukulele. It plays pretty well and gives you the opportunity to do a little bit of fingerpicking for the intro section…
The Chords
5 chords will get you through the song – Em, D, C, B and G. The most difficult of which is the B barre chord. I’ll be doing a lesson on barre chords soon for those that are struggling.
Intro and Verses
For the intro and verses you’ll be playing the progression Em, D, C and B. Each plays through this progression twice. If you want to you can just strum through the intro but it sounds much better fingerpicked…
The Chorus
The chorus differs from the verse, playing this progression – G, D, C, G, G, D, C, G, D, Em
Rhythm/Strumming Pattern
For the rhythm I tend to follow the baseline of the song which gives a good representation of the full sound of the song. The pattern I play is based around this strumming pattern (although I do tend to vary it a little as always)…
D-DUD-DU-UD-DUDU
For the final chord of the verses (the B) and intro I mix it up a little bit more and play something like…
D-DUDUDU-UDDUDU
That’s pretty much it, hope you like it!
I love the roses, iv almost worked out sally cinnamon
Sally Cinnamon is definitely on my list of songs to make lessons for
I’ve been searching high and low for the ukulele tab for Fools Gold. If you ever get round to that, I’d be eternally grateful!
Thanks for all that you’ve done too. Great website, lots of helpful stuff
