The Scientist by Coldplay – Solo Ukulele Arrangement

If you’re a regular reader of this blog then you might know that I’m a big fan of David Lawson (AKA Sawlon) and his brilliant solo ukulele arrangements.

I’m really pleased to say that David has very kindly agreed to let me post his fantastic solo ukulele arrangement tab for The Scientist by Coldplay.

Now it has to be said, I’m not a huge Coldplay fan but I really like this arrangement. It works so well on solo ukulele. I particularly like the way that the melody rings out and the way David handles the transition from strumming to fingerpicking so smoothly.

Here’s David playing through the arrangement…

Ideal for intermediate players

One of the reasons that I like this arrangement so much is that it’s challenging without being overly difficult. I think it’s an ideal arrangement for what I would call an intermediate player. The chords aren’t difficult and the timing is incredibly kind – it’s essentially just eighth notes throughout the song. It’s really just a matter of getting the pattern down.

Playing tips

As with pretty much every piece of music that you’re trying to learn, I’d recommend playing it slow and keeping it steady initially before you bring it up to speed. Only when you can play it through keeping the same tempo throughout should you speed up.
